About Camp
In 2004, the Interlake Regional Health Authority established Camp Stepping Stones, a special weekend camp for children aged 7 to 17 who have experienced the recent death of someone significant in their lives. The camp runs annually and is designed to provide a safe, supportive environment where grieving children and adolescents can feel free to share their thoughts and feelings with peers who have also experienced the death of someone they loved. The concept for Camp Stepping Stones was patterned after similar camps for children in
North America.
Camp Stepping Stones is held the first weekend in June at
Camp
Arnes north of Gimli. The generosity of individuals, businesses, groups, and organizations allows us to offer this camp at no cost to the children who attend.
Volunteers
Each year, volunteers who give freely of their time and commit to help make camp a meaningful experience for the children and adolescents who attend.
What campers can expect
The weekend is very busy with many different activities. Memory boxes, picture frames, art activities, making comfort pillows, and a butterfly release are some of the activities that help campers remember and talk about their loved ones. Swimming, horseback riding, hay rides and wall-climbing are some of the other activities that both campers and volunteers enjoy. Campfires on both evenings with hot dogs and s’mores are a fun and tasty way to end the day.
